Book Buddies: 1 year, 5 months agoI’ve just started rereading God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. I read it 10 years ago and loved it, but for the life of me can’t remember what it is about at all. I’m 100 pages in and still haven’t clicked. It’s quite nice really as it’s like reading it for the first time all over again!

Book Buddies: 1 year, 5 months agoTwo great holiday reads – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, a lovely gentle read about the plight of Guernsey during and after the Nazi occupation, and The Earth Hums in B Flat, a humorous and quirky story of madness in a Welsh village. Also read The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas which I had bought for my 12 year old but decided to…[Read more]

Book Buddies: 1 year, 8 months agoA couple of great recent reads – Tales from the Town of Widows by James Canon which tells the story of the impact on the lives of women in a small Colombian town when all their men are taken away to fight in guerilla wars. Sounds heavy but is very entertaining esp when the local priest, who escaped the guerillas, decides its up to him to ensure…[Read more]

The Help has become my very favourite book, it’s amazing and I mourned it once I had finished for the 2nd time.

Think it’s your copy I’m reading! Am loving it – can’t put it down and laughing out loud at every page. Just got to the bit where Skeeter goes on her date in a trcuk pulling a tractor.

Thanks for the recommendation ladies. Have just finished The Help and I’m missing them all already. Even two-slice Hilly! Brilliant.

Book Buddies: 1 year, 9 months agoJust finished The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. Brilliant read and would thoroughly recommend. Part ghost story, part family saga, part social commentary of the class system after World War 2. I’ve possibly made it sound less exciting than it actually is..!

Book Buddies: 1 year, 9 months agoI’ve just read Worldwide Adventures in Love by Louise Wener..of 90’s group Sleeper fame. Set in the 80’s, it is a fictional account of a family break up as told by the older sister. Sounds depressing and it did have me in tears as it resonated a lot with me, but still well written and would recommend….if anyone wants to have a borrow:@>

I have it – if you still want to borrow let me know and I will pass to Rosie at school. I have to say that I read it twice, and still didn’t understand it but as usual with Dan Brown, rubbish writing but gripping!
Fantastic, yes please can you pass to rosie!
